How We Perceive?
Research in Neuroscience
our work is informed by and informs cognitive neuroscience research on multisensory perception and body perception. How do our brains integrate the different sensory signals to form perceptions of one’s body appearance and capabilities?
- Sensing the body
The sense of our physical body is not fixed. It is acquired and updated through sensing and acting. Our work seeks to understand, through the use of sensorial technologies, the mechanisms behind these sensory updates in how we sense our bodies.
- Body Transformation Experiences (BTE)
With an understanding on how our brains perceive our bodies through the senses, we can actually design sensorial technologies to create Body Transformation Experiences, or perceptual illusions of one’s body changing.
- Changing Body Perception through Sound, Touch and Movement
Our work has shown that body perception, together with tactile and/or movement signals, can change body perception. We investigate the most effective signals and combinations to do so.
- Behavior, emotion, interaction
The way we perceive our bodies shapes our movements and how we interact with objects and with others, as well as our emotional state. We investigate the links between body perception, behavior, emotion and interaction in various populations.
